An exhibition by Miami-based artist Liene Bosquê examines the lasting imprint of architecture through a dialogue between historical objects and contemporary work. On view April 22 through September 6 at The Wolfsonian–FIU on Miami Beach, What Still Stands explores how built environments persist in memory and material even after structures are lost.
The installation draws on Bosquê’s research as the museum’s first Creative Fellow, focusing on architectural elements from the Arts and Crafts, Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements. Central to the exhibition are cyanotype works created by exposing objects from the Wolfsonian collection, including a cast-iron balustrade by Hector Guimard, to sunlight to produce layered, atmospheric impressions.
Presented across the museum’s second floor and the Bridge Tender House, the exhibition places Bosquê’s work alongside architectural features of the building itself, including original vault doors from its past as a storage facility. Through these juxtapositions, the installation considers themes of permanence, transformation and the evolving life of architectural spaces.
