Live Arts Miami Presents Small Island Big Song

Live Arts Miami Presents Small Island Big Song

Feb 25, 2022
Starting: 8:00 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM.

Live Arts Miami (LAM) presents Small Island Big Song (SIBS), a globally acclaimed collective of over a hundred award-winning indigenous musicians from 16 island nations of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. With a mission to tackle some of the world’s most immediate climate crisis issues, SIBS is a global clarion call for climate action, by drawing together the authority and perspectives of first nation elders expressed in the universal language - music. Over a weeklong residency in Miami culminating in a live concert experience, SIBS will present their dynamic multimedia performance at the North Beach Bandshell, a contemporary and relevant musical statement for our city, connecting two regions on the frontlines of the environmental challenges we face today.

The Miami premiere of this work represents an exciting new chapter in the project’s history, connecting beyond the Indian and Pacific into the Caribbean. The SIBS residency in Miami will include a special collaboration between Miami-based Caribbean artists and SIBS artists, resulting in a unique musical dialogue that audiences will experience only in Miami Beach. LAM is also working together with Miami-based environmental organizations The Cleo Institute and Dream In Green to connect local schools to the project. The ultimate goal of this presentation is to create new pathways for audiences to engage in meaningful action around global environmental challenges while finding inspiration in the unifying power of the arts.
