Jun 09, 2026 - Sep 29, 2026
weekly on Tuesday
From: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Afro-Cuban jazz, Latin rhythms and live percussion anchor a weekly Tuesday performance at Ball & Chain in Little Havana. Live Jazz: Calixto Oviedo & The Ball & Chain Trio takes place every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. on Calle Ocho. The series offers an early evening set led by one of Cuban music’s veteran percussionists.
Latin Grammy-nominated artist Calixto Oviedo has built a career spanning more than three decades, performing with artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ray Barretto and Giovanni Hidalgo. Born in Havana, Oviedo was part of major Cuban music ensembles including Adalberto y Su Son and N.G. La Banda, where his drums and timbales helped shape the group’s influential timba sound.
The weekly Ball & Chain performance gives audiences a close-up setting for Oviedo’s musicianship, with The Ball & Chain Trio supporting a program rooted in jazz, Cuban dance traditions and rhythmic improvisation.
