Feb 16, 2027
Starting: 7:30 PM
The Munich Philharmonic makes its Arsht Center debut with a program spanning Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Schubert. The performance takes place Tuesday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Knight Concert Hall as part of the Arsht Center’s 2026-2027 Classical Music Series. Lahav Shani, the orchestra’s new chief conductor, leads the ensemble and appears as piano soloist.
The program opens with Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, known as the “Classical” Symphony, a work that nods to Haydn and Mozart while adding modern harmonic turns. Shani then conducts from the keyboard in Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, an energetic concerto written for the composer’s son, Maxim. The concert concludes with Schubert’s Symphony No. 9, the “Great,” a sweeping work known for its scale, momentum and lyrical breadth.
Regarded as one of Europe’s major orchestras, the Munich Philharmonic is known for a rich orchestral sound and a long history of international performance. The concert also marks Shani’s return to the Knight Concert Hall following his 2025 appearance with the Israel Philharmonic.
