MUVE International Coastal Cleanup Day

Volunteers can remove shoreline debris while contributing data to international research on ocean pollution at Virginia Key North Point. The cleanup takes place Saturday, September 19, as part of the 41st annual International Coastal Cleanup, a global initiative led by Ocean Conservancy. Presented locally by the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, the event is one of more than 45 simultaneous shoreline cleanups organized across Miami-Dade County through VolunteerCleanup.org.

Participants can use the Clean Swell app or provided data cards to catalog collected items for the International Coastal Cleanup’s marine debris database. Garbage bags, gloves and a commemorative tote bag will be supplied, and community service hours are available. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and sun protection and bring a reusable water bottle and any needed snacks.

Check-in will be located at the picnic tables at Virginia Key North Point Beach Park, with complimentary parking available at Virginia Key North Point Trails. Advance registration and completion of the Frost Science liability waiver are required.
