Rooted in Soul: Bound by Love
May 10, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Immerse yourself in an evening that celebrates cultural legacy and community as the Little Haiti Cultural Complex hosts a special event honoring a matriarch of Overtown, Miami. Rooted in Soul: Bound by Love offers a heartfelt tribute to Mrs. Emma, a Southern Belle whose home became a sanctuary for the Haitian community.
On May 10, this immersive art exhibit will pay homage to Mrs. Emma's impact through a vibrant blend of art, music, cuisine and storytelling. Curated by Cácos Bart of MUCE and in partnership with Dine for Design, Inc., the exhibit features visuals from local and emerging artists that reflect the shared history and cultural pride of both the Haitian and African-American communities.
In addition to the art, the event will include a storytelling segment, where Gabrielle Charles, Mrs. Emma’s bonus daughter, will share personal memories of growing up under her care. Guests will also enjoy traditional Southern and Haitian cuisine, representing the cultures that shaped Overtown, as well as live performances that celebrate the rhythms and sounds of both communities.
This celebration is a tribute to Mrs. Emma’s legacy, inviting guests to reflect, connect and honor the strength and unity that she embodied. The event encourages a “Culturally Chic” dress code, inviting attendees to celebrate this special evening in style.
