SoundScape Cinema Series: The Ballad of Wallis Island
May 13, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
An offbeat character-driven drama brings music, memory and unresolved relationships to an outdoor screening at SoundScape Park.
SoundScape Cinema Series: The Ballad of Wallis Island takes place Wednesday, May 13 at SoundScape Park. Directed by James Griffiths, the 2025 film centers on Charles, an eccentric lottery winner living in isolation on a remote island who arranges a private concert by his favorite musician, Herb McGwyer. Unbeknownst to Herb, the gathering also includes his former bandmate and ex-partner, Nell, along with her husband, setting the stage for an emotionally charged reunion shaped by old creative bonds and personal history.
As weather conditions strand the group together, the story unfolds as a chamber piece that blends humor, melancholy and musical nostalgia. The film explores themes of artistic identity, regret and the complicated ways people revisit unfinished chapters of their lives.
The screening is part of the City of Miami Beach’s SoundScape Cinema Series and begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free with no ticket required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall.
