Doors open: 7:00 PM | Show starts: 8:00 PM
A double bill of West Coast surf-punk and Northeast indie grit hits Gramps Wynwood, pairing garage hooks with introspective indie moods.
The Frights & Flycatcher perform at Gramps Wynwood on Thursday, September 18. This 18+ show is presented by Breakeven Booking with tickets runing $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
Formed in 2012 in Poway, California, The Frights channel sun‑soaked surf‑punk and doo‑wop into emotionally charged anthems. Frontman Mikey Carnevale’s songwriting has evolved from playful early material to the more reflective tone of albums like Hypochondriac (2018) and Everything Seems Like Yesterday (2020), the latter recorded in a remote cabin to capture a sense of raw intimacy. Their live sets balance punchy riffs with unexpectedly tender lyrics that linger well after the final chord.
Opening the evening, Flycatcher delivers a more introspective, acoustic-leaning sound. Based in New Brunswick, the band draws on alt-rock and Americana, layering jagged guitar hooks with vulnerable, immersive lyrics, a style shaped by releases such as their Songs for Strangers EP. Their music explores the tension between quiet reflection and sweeping emotional release.
