This is America: Artist and Curator Meet and Greet
May 28, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Artists and curators gather at PAMM for an opening event connected to an exhibition reflecting on American history, identity and civic life during the nation’s 250th anniversary. The meet and greet takes place Thursday, May 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pérez Art Museum Miami, celebrating the opening of This Is America: Selections from PAMM’s Collection. The evening features exhibition artists Gonzalo Hernandez, Sandra Ramos and Eddie Arroyo in conversation with PAMM Associate Curator Maritza Lacayo.
Drawn from PAMM’s permanent collection, This Is America marks the Semiquincentennial of the United States Declaration of Independence through artworks by artists from varied cultural backgrounds, time periods and media. The exhibition includes work by José Bedia, Judy Chicago, Alfredo Jaar and Rashid Johnson, alongside Miami-based artists including Hernandez, Ramos, Arroyo, Thomas Bils and others. Together, the works consider American history through themes of crisis, transformation, resilience, community and joy.
The participating artists bring a range of perspectives to the exhibition. Hernandez, born in Lima and based in Miami, works across textile, painting and installation practices; Ramos, born in Havana and based in Miami, explores identity, migration, politics and ecology through multimedia work; and Arroyo examines changing communities, power and identity through paintings rooted in Miami’s urban landscape. During the event, visitors can also stop by the Engage Miami station to register to vote.
