Viva La Parranda
Jul 10, 2025 - Jul 27, 2025
weekly on Sunday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Thu-Sat: 8:00 PM | Sun: 5:00 PM
Experience the powerful sounds and stories of Afro-Venezuelan tradition brought to life through music, movement, and memory. Performed by vocalist Betsayda Machado and her village ensemble La Parranda El Clavo, this production blends infectious rhythms with cultural narratives rooted in identity, resilience, and community.
Viva La Parranda returns to the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road from July 10 to July 27, 2025, with performances running Thursday through Sunday. Originally created by Machado and La Parranda El Clavo in collaboration with and under the direction of Juan Carlos Souki, the show fuses concert performance with documentary-style theater. It features live percussion, traditional dance, and personal stories drawn from the ensemble’s lived experiences in El Clavo, a coastal town in Venezuela.
Presented by Miami New Drama, the performance is part of a wider series celebrating Latin American music and storytelling. Whether encountering these traditions for the first time or returning for another experience, Viva La Parranda invites audiences to connect with a community’s history and spirit through sound.
