Miami Book Fair Year-Round Events
- September 30, 2025
While the beloved Miami Book Fair takes place one week a year, the story continues even after the last chapter of the fair ends. The Book Fair offers year-round programming, from virtual readings, author talks and writing workshops to fun activities for the entire family. And they’re all free. Immerse yourself in Greater Miami & Miami Beach’s stimulating literary scene.
Enjoy Family Fun At A Literary Picnic
Oct. 18, 2025, and throughout the year
Cultural diversity, family fun and a love for reading and the arts are at the heart of Picnic de Libros, a series of bilingual outdoor picnics produced by the Miami Book Fair and Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center in Little Havana.
Bring the whole family for an afternoon filled with storytelling, arts and crafts, dance, music and theater. The events encourage kids (and families) to read, with picnic baskets filled with books in Spanish and English. They can even take home free books (while supplies last). The picnics are free when you RSVP.
Get That First Draft On The Page
Throughout the year
If you’re looking to connect with other creatives and improve your writing skills, the Miami Book Fair hosts First Draft, a virtual creative writing workshop series via Zoom, once a month. The workshops are led by acclaimed authors in various genres who use different themes and prompts to help writers develop great stories. They’re a chance to socialize and share your work with others in the writing community. Recent workshop leaders have included New York Times bestselling author Jamie Ford and Haitian poet and author Nadine Pinede.
Your Favorite Authors, Live and Unfiltered
Throughout the year
Craving face time with your favorite author? The Miami Book Fair regularly hosts virtual and in-person author readings throughout the year, often in partnership with the popular local independent bookstore Books & Books. The events take place at various locations, including the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus in Downtown Miami. Expect a strong lineup of internationally known authors and speakers.
Teens, Unleash Your Creativity at a Writing Workshop
Throughout the year
Another popular year-round event is Speak Up: free creative writing workshops for teenagers. If your child wants to express themselves on paper or is an aspiring author, experienced authors and professors will teach them everything from drafting to publishing. It’s a safe space for teens to let their creativity flow, and no experience is needed.
Recent influential names who’ve led these classes are Camille Gomera-Tavarez, an Afro Dominican writer, designer and creative; Matthew Davis, author of the 2025 book “A Biography of a Mountain: The Making and Meaning of Mount Rushmore”; James Robinson, an Emmy Award–winning documentary filmmaker and video producer for New York Times Opinion; and Abigail Nover, a senior producer at HarperCollins Publishers.
