Metrorail

Metrorail

Transportation

Metrorail is Miami’s quick and easy 25-mile elevated transportation system to get you to all parts of the urban core of Miami from 5:00am to midnight, seven days a week. Launched in the 1980s, this rail line is the hub for Miami’s inner city transit and an easy way to get around. To make traveling around town even more comfortable and efficient, check out the Metrorail’s schedule or download the GO Miami-Dade Transit app to plan your day.

How Can I Get to the Airport on Metrorail?

Need to get to the Miami International Airport (MIA)? There’s a special Metrorail Orange Line that runs specifically to the airport. The Orange Line connects to the Miami Intermodal Center, a local transportation hub that connects to MIA via the MIA Mover.

Where Else Will Metrorail Take Me?

From Downtown Miami and Brickell to Coconut Grove and South Miami as well as a quick trip to the airport, the Metrorail offers one easy ride to get you where you need to go. There are two distinct rail lines that depart from the Dadeland South station on US1. The Orange line ends at Miami International Airport and back. The Green line runs further up north with connections to the Tri-rail. You can also take it to MiamiCentral Station to connect to Brightline. There are stops along each route at many of Miami's hotspots such as Coconut Grove, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Brickell, the Lyric Theater, Hialeah and more. Stops are about one mile apart and handicap accessible. Check out the Metrorail's station map to find out which line or stops to use, or visit Miami-Dade’s public transportation page for more details.

How Much Does the Metrorail Cost?

Metrorail trip fares start at $2.25. Easy Tickets can be purchased at any Metrorail station. (Cash payment is accepted at the Ticket Vending Machine next to the fare gate). For frequent commuters, you can purchase the EASY Card at any Metrorail station or online. The EASY Card can easily be re-loaded via the GO Miami-Dade Transit app for a quick tap and go experience at the station. Another benefit of opting for contactless payment is the daily fare cap of $5.65, no matter how many times you ride. One-Way Passes, unlimited daily passes, weekly passes and monthly passes are also available.

Does the Metrorail have WiFi?

Riders can enjoy free WiFi on board the Metrorail.

How to connect:

  • Make sure WiFi Discovery is active in your device
  • The service set identifier (SSID) is: Miami-Dade Free Wi-Fi.
  • Once your device has discovered this SSID, you may connect to it.
  • There are no passwords to enter; however, upon connecting you will be presented with a splash page.
  • On the splash page, make sure you read the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Once you accept these terms, click on the button that reads "Get connected now" to gain internet access.
  • You will then be redirected to www.miamidade.gov after which you will be able to use the Internet at your leisure.

Plan Your Public Transportation on your Phone

You can now track Miami's Metrorail and Metromover in real time. Access bus schedules and get connecting route information. You can even find the closest bus stops and stations directly from your phone. No need to have flimsy paper schedules. Just download the GO Miami-Dade Transit app from your iPhone or Android mobile device to plan your trip, and you will be on your way.

The Metrorail system is a 25-mile dual track, elevated rapid transit system that provides service to Miami International Airport (MIA) and runs from Kendall through South Miami, Coral Gables, and downtown Miami; to the Civic Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital area; and to Brownsville, Liberty City, Hialeah, and Medley in northwest Miami-Dade, with connections to Broward and Palm Beach counties at the Tri-Rail/Metrorail transfer station. The system currently uses 136 train cars. The 23 accessible Metrorail stations are about one mile apart, providing easy access for bus riders, pedestrians, and passengers who are dropped off and picked up.
