Getting to Downtown Miami from the Airport
- March 11, 2026
A mere nine miles from Miami International Airport (MIA), Downtown Miami is a breeze to get to. From public transportation, to ride-shares, taxis, car rentals, shuttles and executive car services, here's all the details you need to make your commute a smooth one.

Metrorail Orange Line: Quick & Convenient
Inside the airport, take the MIA Mover connecting airport terminals to the Miami Intermodal Center, where the airport's Metrorail terminal is located. Here, the Orange line departs approximately every 15 minutes from approximately 5 a.m. to midnight with multiple stops in Downtown Miami.
From there, you can connect to a network of other public transit options, including Metrobus and the free Metromover to get to your final destination.
The Metrorail's Orange Line then continues south with a stop in the adjacent Brickell Financial District and terminates at Dadeland South.
At $2.25 per ride, it's a cost-effective means of transportation, although travel time to Downtown Miami averages about 45 minutes (three times longer than driving).
Traveler Tip: You can review the Metrorail map and download the GO Miami-Dade Transit app and the Miami Trolley App to help you navigate public transportation.

Ride Share and Taxis
Like any major metropolitan area, taxis and ride-shares are widely available at Miami International Airport with minimal wait times. After baggage claim, follow the signs to the exit and you'll find the designated areas for taxi queues and ride-share pickups. Depending on traffic, driving from MIA to Downtown Miami can take about 15 to 20 minutes.
Taxis are sometimes more expensive with typical rates around $40, while Uber and Lyft can sometimes cost as little as $25.
Airport Shuttles and Executive Car Services
There are various shared airport shuttles and private executive car services to transport you from MIA to Downtown Miami.
These services can take the guesswork out of transportation as your driver waits in Arrivals holding a sign with your name on it or you head to a designated meeting area for a shared shuttle.
These companies include SuperShuttle, Go Airport Shuttle & Executive Car, South Florida Shuttles, Transfeero and Blacklane. Shared shuttles typically cost around $25 per passenger, while executive car service flat fees start at around $50.

Rent a Car and Drive
If you prefer to take the wheel and drive yourself, all major car rental companies are found at the MIA Rental Car Center in the Miami International Airport's Intermodal Center.
It's a good idea to secure your reservation ahead of time. Rates can run anywhere from $50 to $80+ per day. Overnight valet parking at most Miami hotels include parking with your reservation. Rates can be $50 to $60 per night with comparable rates at independent parking garages.
When driving to Downtown Miami from the airport, there are two main routes. Each of the following options will get you there in about 15 minutes.
