- January 13, 2026
Miami has big bragging rights as the “Cruise Capital of the World,” with PortMiami receiving more cruise passengers than any other cruise port around the globe. If you’re cruising in or out of Miami, you’ll want to plan ahead.
Here’s everything you need to know about getting to the PortMiami cruise terminal, including Miami public transportation, terminal parking and fees.

PortMiami Directions
From Miami International Airport
After arriving at Miami International Airport for your cruise, getting to PortMiami is simple and easy – the port is eight miles away. A cool part of the ride is going through the PortMiami tunnel.
Most cruise lines offer convenient shuttle service to the port, and travelers can also pre-book private airport transportation. Additionally, some Miami hotels provide shuttle service as part of special cruise packages.

Ride-sharing in Miami is popular and widely available, as well as taxicabs, which can be found outside of baggage claim at the ground level of the Arrivals terminal.
Public transportation is also a budget-friendly option, but can be more time consuming. From the Miami Airport, travelers can take the Metrorail’s orange line to Government Center Station, then take the Metromover to Freedom Tower Station and opt for a taxi or rideshare.

From Fort Lauderdale International Airport
If you’re arriving at Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL), which is 26 miles away from the Miami port, you have several options to get to PortMiami. The easiest is taking a direct ride by taxi, rideshare, a prescheduled limo or a van from the airport. Follow the signs in baggage claim for transportation pickups.
Another option is to zip down on the Brightline train from Fort Lauderdale to MiamiCentral Station. First, you’ll need to drive or take the 01 shuttle from FLL Airport to the Broward County Central Terminal. From there, the Brightline train to Miami takes approximately 38 minutes. You’ll then hop in a 10-minute rideshare or taxi to the port.
Alternatively, take the free shuttle bus from the FLL Airport to the Tri-Rail, which will take you to the Metrorail Transfer Station. From there, you can continue with the Metrorail to Government Center Station and then drive the remaining eight minutes to the port, for a total journey of around two hours.

Miami Public Transportation
When it comes to Miami transportation, the only public transit that goes directly to PortMiami is the City of Miami’s Coral Way Route Trolley.
If you’re in Downtown Miami, catch it at Government Center Station, where it connects with Metrorail, Metromover, Metrobus and Brightline. The Tri-Rail also offers one-stop service from Palm Beach to Downtown Miami, offering easy access to PortMiami for travelers.
