There is more to explore in South Dade
With the Everglades to the west, Biscayne Bay to the east and the bustling urban center of Greater Miami & Miami Beach to the north, South Dade is the place where you’ll find sprawling farmland, exotic fruit stands and the unique ecosystems of two national parks.
Everglades National Park spreads across 1.5 million acres over the tip of South Florida, supporting habitats for alligators, crocodiles, white-tailed deer, Florida panthers and bald eagles. Biscayne National Park is the largest marine park in the national park system, with 95 percent of its 172,000 acres underwater. It's a boating, fishing and diving paradise.
Local farms and parks grow their own exotic fruits and vegetables, and one produces its own wine from this tropical bounty. Sample a few while visiting Fruit & Spice Park, Knaus Berry Farm and Schnebly Redland's Winery.
If you visit during March, you’ll find special programs celebrating National Agriculture Week.
Attractions such as Cauley Square Historic Village, the Gold Coast Railroad Museum and the Deering Estate honor the area's unique history of early homesteaders and the construction of Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway. Take the whole family to Zoo Miami to enjoy more than 750 acres of open-air exhibits.
The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center transformed South Dade into a premier destination for the performing arts, while the Homestead Miami Speedway keeps the adrenaline pumping turn after turn with high-octane NASCAR events. It's also a destination to shop till you drop at The Falls and Southland Mall.
