Where to Find Farm-Fresh Produce Boxes in Miami

In Greater Miami and Miami Beach, one of the many benefits of our subtropical climate is that it allows farmers to grow regional and exotic fruits, vegetables and herbs all year long. When that produce is at peak season, locals line up for their share of the bounty by participating in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, or “farm share.”

While no two programs are the same, CSA Miami farm shares typically run from late fall through spring and offer weekly, bi-weekly or monthly boxes of produce, eggs and other goods from local Miami farmers and artisans. The South Dade farms below have some of the best farm shares in Miami – check them out and see which one might be the best fit for you.

NanasGreene CSA

Managed by third-generation farmer Michael Borek, NanasGreene CSA offers a 27-week farm share in Miami from November through May. Depending on the number of people in your household, choose from three different sizes: small (one or two people), medium (two or three people) and large (three or more people).

Each week, you’ll get a mix of the farm’s homegrown fruits, vegetables and herbs, including (but not limited to) heirloom tomatoes, peppers, spring mix lettuce, arugula, callaloo, lychees, Chinese water spinach, tomatillos and more.

Recipes using your new produce are provided with each box. Customers can join the CSA at any point and have their subscription prorated. There’s no delivery, but boxes can be collected at specified pick-up locations every Wednesday and Thursday.

French Farms

French Farms – tucked inside one of the last native hammocks in the Redlands, the 112-acre Castellow Hammock Preserve & Nature Center – offers a 20-week CSA Salad Share from November through April. The salad share includes lettuce, gem romaine heads or arugula as a base, plus a mix of seasonal vegetables (such as radishes, carrots, turnips, cucumbers and sprouting cauliflower), herbs, micro greens, root crops, edible flowers and tropical fruit that make a salad unique and delicious.

Every week, subscribers receive an email with details about what’s in the box, fun recipes to try with their new produce and updates about French Farms. Pick up boxes on Saturdays and Sundays in your assigned area: North (at Legion Park Farmer’s Market in Miami’s Upper East Side or a mobile cooler at a home in Biscayne Park), Central (in a secure fridge outside a private home in West Coconut Grove) or South (at French Farms).

Putting the “community” in Community Supported Agriculture, French Farms lets customers pay on a sliding scale based on what they can afford. The true cost of the salad share is $742, but there’s a lower-income $658 price, and a separate benefactor price. Buyers are trusted to choose the most appropriate option based on what they’re able to pay.

Tiny Farm

Tiny Farm is a natural, chemical-free market garden in the Redlands that’s committed to growing nutrient-rich produce for Miami restaurants. Priced at $1,000, its 16-week Winter CSA runs from November to April.

Every week, customers get a dozen eggs, one type of micro green and six-to-eight seasonal fruits and vegetables. Farm share boxes can be picked up at Legion Park Farmers Market or at specified locations in Coconut Grove, Miami Beach, Miami Shores, Aventura or Ft. Lauderdale. Customers can get home delivery and extra cartons of eggs for an additional cost.

Paradise Farms

The 17-acre Paradise Farms in Homestead uses organic and regenerative farming practices to harvest produce that is both flavorful and nutrient-dense. It offers a weekly CSA farm share in Miami for 13 weeks in fall or spring, or a full 26-week option that combines the two.

Each week, members will get a box with peak-season micro greens, salad greens, four or five fruits and vegetables, mushrooms (every other week) and a Paradise Farms culinary “staple,” such as a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs or cheese. Each box will also come with recipes to show you new and fun ways to enjoy your farm share.

Pick up your box every Tuesday and Thursday at your designated location. On Tuesdays, pickup points are at Paradise Farms (Homestead), Grove Grocer (Coconut Grove) or The Sacred Space (Wynwood). On Thursdays, find them in Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. Boxes can be delivered straight to your home for an additional fee.

Enrollment opens each August and boxes are limited, so sign up early. As an added benefit, CSA members are invited to special cocktail events and get surprise seasonal gifts and discounts for other Paradise Farms online orders and reservations throughout the year.

Empower Farms

Empower Farms in Florida City believes in the healing power of nature. It’s a certified organic farm committed to nurturing not just the soil, but the Miami community. As a permaculture farm, it strives to design natural ecosystems that benefit and reflect the diversity, stability and resilience of all living beings. Staying true to its name, Empower Farms also employs people with disabilities to teach them farming skills and give them opportunities to live productive, fulfilling lives.

Empower Farms’ disability program is largely supported by its annual CSA fall and winter farm shares. There are four different subscription options:

• A weekly, 24-box share starting at $720
• A bi-weekly, 12-box share starting at $420
• A six-box share sent every four weeks for $240
• New this year, half-share options for any of the above programs (5-to-6 items instead of the full 10-to-12)

Every box comes with a variety of seasonal fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers and eggs delivered right to your door. Unlike other farms, Empower Farms offers a separate farm share, the Egg Lovers Fruity Summer (ELFS) program, from May to September. Each delivery comes with two dozen eggs and a mix of local and exotic fruit such as bananas, mangoes, papayas, avocados, mamey, longans, jackfruit, sugar apples, guava, egg fruit and dragon fruit.

Regener8 Farm & Retreat

Regener8 Farm & Retreat in Homestead uses regenerative and pesticide- and chemical-free farming practices. It opened in 2021 with the intention of providing nutritious food and educational opportunities for the students and families of the Centner Academy, as well as the community at large.

From December 5 through May 25, Regener8 offers weekly and bi-weekly boxes of seasonal produce and local items in two sizes, standard or small. Boxes have a mix of vegetables that are at peak ripeness, including lettuce, kale, bok choi, arugula, carrots, beets, squashes, onions and herbs.

Separately, customers can sign up for egg shares and salad or micro green boxes. Almost everything is grown onsite, and the few items that aren’t are sourced from other regenerative farms in Miami. Boxes can be picked up at specified locations across Miami and into Broward County, and delivery is also available.

Green Tomato

Green Tomato is an entirely online produce delivery service. Most notably, it’s Greater Miami and Miami Beach’s first sustainable produce delivery service, committed to producing zero waste, using reusable tote bags and tracking its carbon footprint. Doing even more good for the community, Green Tomato brings fresh produce and other local food items to neighborhoods spanning Cutler Bay to Palm Beach County.

Available weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, this unique farm share in Miami invites you to choose your own adventure. Pick from different-sized tote bags of food – from “Cherry” (small) to “Campari” (XX-large) – or themed bags like the “Detox” tote with cucumbers, celery, spinach, lettuce, ginger, turmeric, mint, apples and lemons.
