Deering Estate Preserves The Arts
Deering Estate, once the 1920s winter home of industrialist, art collector, environmentalist and preservationist Charles Deering, is a Palmetto Bay gem.
Taking after its late owner, today, the 444-acre estate celebrates arts and culture, and serves as a museum showcasing important art pieces from Deering’s personal collection. It has an Artist-in-Residence program that hosts visual, literary, performing and cross-disciplinary artists, as well as a year-round calendar of rotating art exhibits, artist talks, concerts, Playwright Development Program workshops, theater productions and films.
Attend any of Deering Estate’s many annual festivals and you’ll find live music by local students or professional musicians.

Historic Charm At Coral Castle
Coral Castle, in Homestead, is an architectural marvel. This 1,100-ton castle and “garden” was carved and built by hand from 3 million pounds of oolite coral rock by a 100-pound man who had no help and no modern tools or machinery. The architect, Ed Leedskalnin, spent 28 years building Coral Castle for his long-lost love.
It has a three-ton gate that moves with the touch of a finger, a Polaris telescope and the world’s only hand-carved coral rock sundial with seasons. The tools and cooking utensils Leedskalnin used are also onsite. Coral Castle was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Seminole Theatre Journey From Ruins to Riches
It’s hard to miss the pink-lit marquee of the Seminole Theatre, which lights up downtown Homestead. Built in its current location in 1921, this vintage theater has a storied past, surviving a fire in 1940, financial ruin in 1979 and a near-total loss from Hurricane Andrew in 1992 – all tragedies that forced the venue to close its doors.
Now owned by the City of Homestead since 1993, Seminole Theatre hosts movie screenings, arts education classes, musicals, plays, children's theater, dance performances and even rotating art galleries.

Humble Beginnings At The Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum
The Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum opened in 1994 to give visitors a peek into the people, buildings and events that shaped the beginnings of Homestead and its surrounding areas. Located in the original 1917-built Homestead Town Hall, the museum has photos and artifacts on display, a library with archives that are available to researchers and a gift shop.
When you go, be sure to check out the original 1924 American LaFrance fire truck, which belonged to the City of Homestead and was partially restored by firefighting enthusiasts in the Tampa Bay area.
