But if you’re the type who sees a sunny day as the perfect opportunity to get some exercise, Miami Beach is just as equipped to keep you in shape as it is to help you unwind. This beach paradise offers endless ways to get your sweat on, whether that means exercising outdoors, playing sports or hitting the gym. Read on for all the best ways to stay healthy and fit in Miami Beach.

Outdoor Workouts

Probably the easiest way to get your blood pumping outside is by running, rollerblading or renting a CitiBike to cruise along the Beachwalk, a continuous paved pathway that runs along the beach from 1st to 79th streets. You’ll get the lay of the land with stunning ocean views, and maybe even catch local legend “Raven,” who has been running eight miles along South Beach every evening since 1975, along with his band of followers.

Strength training outside is easy, too. At Lummus Park on Ocean Drive and 9th Street, you’ll find Muscle Beach, where a collection of workout equipment sits right on the sand. Pull-up bars, benches, squat racks and ropes are open to anyone looking to get their pump on.

In Miami Beach, you can even work out on the water. Rent a paddleboard from the City of Miami Beach, then perfect your core and balance as you paddle through the beautiful waters.

Yoga enthusiasts will appreciate Miami Beach’s offerings. South Pointe Park has AcroYoga (a combination of acrobatics and Yoga) sessions on Wednesdays and Sundays. Just up the beach, you’ll find free beach yoga at 3rd Street and Ocean Drive. The City of Miami Beach also offers free yoga classes at 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Collins Park, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the North Beach Bandshell.

Where to Play Sports in Miami Beach

If competition is what gets your blood going, Miami Beach has plenty of spots for nearly every sport. Beach volleyball is big here, and you’ll find the best games at the courts near 8th Street and Ocean Drive.

If you’re a swimmer but the open Atlantic isn’t your thing, Miami Beach also offers three public pools for lap-swimming. Check with the Flamingo Park or Normandy Isle pools or the Scott Rakow Youth Center for their lap-swim times. The Rakow Center also has an ice-skating rink with frequent pick-up hockey games and open skate sessions.

Tennis players have options aplenty in Miami Beach. The Flamingo Park Tennis Center at 12th Street and Meridian Avenue is open from 7:30 a.m. daily, and offers match play and private lessons. The Miami Beach Tennis Center on 72nd Street is home to the Miami Beach Tennis Academy, and has adult clinics, junior camps and courts available to reserve for a nominal fee. You’ll also find free courts in five neighborhood parks throughout the city: Fairway Park, Palm Island Park, Polo Park, Normandy Shores and the Miami Beach Golf Club (hitting the links at this course or the Normandy Shores Golf Club is another great way to get in some exercise).

Faster-paced but lower-impact pickleball games happen on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the North Shore Park Youth Center. For skateboarders, Miami Beach boasts a full skate park on 82nd Street.

Indoor Gym Facilities

Those who like to work out in the pleasant confines of an air-conditioned gym – or prefer group studio fitness classes – will find plenty in Miami Beach. Legendary 5th Street Gym – best known as Muhammad Ali’s Miami home base – is open to the public with daily and monthly passes available. Just around the corner, a more luxurious gym experience awaits at Equinox. And you can experience a quintessential South Beach gym scene at Crunch.

Miami Beach is also chock-full of unique workouts that go far beyond the traditional weights and cardio. SoulCycle has a studio on Collins Avenue and 23rd Street. You can also take public Zumba classes with the City of Miami Beach on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the North Shore Park Youth Center, and Thursdays at the Scott Rakow Youth Center.

Fitness, of course, stretches far beyond your workout. To learn a more holistic approach, step into Anatomy Fitness. Here, nutrition, chiropractic, and even IV therapy combine for a complete wellness experience. You can also get a foam-roller massage at the Body Roll Studio.
