A Night Out in the Wynwood Arts District
- August 31, 2023
When you’re looking for a night out on the town, Wynwood is one of the buzziest neighborhoods in Greater Miami & Miami Beach. You’ll find some of the most exciting restaurants in the destination here, like longtime staple Coyo Taco. What’s more, Wynwood’s bar and nightlife scene is constantly reinventing itself. New concepts are opening all the time. Whether you’re in the mood for a creative cocktail, craft beer, chill vibes or a high-energy dance party, Wynwood is the place to be.

Graffiti Classes, Anyone?
Of course, Wynwood’s street art and gallery scene put the neighborhood on the map, so make plans to immerse yourself in it. The Museum of Graffiti hosts “Spray It Loud” graffiti art classes every Saturday evening at 5 p.m. Explore the museum, try your hand at this expressive, often improvisational art form, then make plans to dine out after your art adventure.
Craft Beer Tours
Wynwood Art Walk hosts a variety of neighborhood tours, and their Wynwood Graffiti Brewery Golf Cart Tour is the perfect happy hour option. You’ll bop around in a golf buggy with a knowledgeable tour guide, who will tell you all about the neighborhood’s history as well as the artists and murals represented today. Of course, there will be pit stops at popular craft breweries along the way.

Veza Sur Brewing Co. pours a Brazilian-style chopp, an ice-cold lager with a creamy foam top. At Cerveceria La Tropical, another one of the neighborhood’s breweries, cool off with a pint in a hip indoor-outdoor setting, but just be sure to have bar snacks or a meal as part of your evening. Remember, suds crawl responsibly.

Other Nighttime Spots in Wynwood
Higher Ground at Arlo Wynwood
The team behind Miami Beach’s legendary Broken Shaker cocktail bar and many other concepts has brought their talents to Wynwood’s first boutique hotel with Higher Ground at Arlo Wynwood. The indoor-outdoor rooftop bar is nestled on a third-floor courtyard offering plenty of space to lounge amidst lush foliage. With that as your inspiration, order the Lush Life, a smoky margarita-style cocktail made with palo santo-infused tequila and a black lava salt rim.

R House
A concept by Chef Rocco Carulli and husband Owen Bale in collaboration with drag queen Athena Dion and DJ Jody McDonald, R House is a gay entertainment mecca with a lively weekend lineup. On Friday evenings, come out for the Yas Queen drag show starring Miami’s fiercest queens. Saturday night’s Escandalo! party is a drag show with a Latin twist and a live salsa band. The Saturday and Sunday drag brunch is the stuff of legends. With Chef Rocco’s creative Latin cuisine and mixology program, a night out at R House is both sophisticated and high-spirited.

Gramps
Gramps is holding down the fort as one of Wynwood’s OG nightlife hangs, and for good reason. You’re guaranteed a good time here. There’s a spacious outdoor patio with a bar for mixing and mingling and a window where you can order pizza. Inside, the main bar has a retro, diner-style vibe with big booths, a smartly edited cocktail menu and plenty of craft beer choices. Another door leads to a room for live music (usually experimental rock), DJs and the occasional comic (Hannibal Buress likes to pop in from time to time). Essentially, there’s something for everyone, and it’s a perennial locals’ favorite. In short, a night out at Gramps can be as laid back or as weird as you want it to be.

Dante’s HiFi
Billed as a “vinyl listening bar,” Dante’s HiFi is a sophisticated den for music and cocktails. In addition to top-shelf spirits, the wall behind the bar is lined with nearly 10,000 vinyl records from the personal library of the bar’s music director, DJ Rich Medina. Slightly off the beaten path on NW 5th Avenue, the speakeasy-style lounge is outfitted in comfortable tobacco-toned leather sofas and barstools, where patrons are encouraged to sit back and relax while listening to sets by globally recognized DJs and musicians through a state-of-the-art sound system.

Freehold Miami
Bringing a touch of Williamsburg cool to the Wynwood Arts District, this Brooklyn import is a natural fit for the neighborhood. Spanning three bars with an enormous outdoor courtyard for live music and DJs, Freehold Miami functions as a weekend party spot by night and a co-working hang by day, with a lounge and café styled after an opulent, tropical hotel lobby. Freehold’s cocktail program hews classic, with an espresso martini that’s reached near-cult status. Its onsite restaurant draws inspiration from 1970s pizza shops, with pies by Anthony Falco of Roberta’s fame.
Oasis Wynwood
Oasis Wynwood is a sprawling, lushly landscaped outdoor courtyard boasting a central stage for headliner DJs and live music. It’s anchored by the Tower Bar, constructed with a stack of shipping containers painted by Spanish mural artist Antonyo Marest. Additional shipping containers are strewn about, doubling as mini restaurant counters. Tucked away in the back is Huacachina, a chic indoor-outdoor cocktail lounge named for a Peruvian oasis.

1-800-LUCKY
1-800-LUCKY is a longtime neighborhood hot spot. At 10,000 square feet, this indoor-outdoor Asian food hall serves up everything from bao buns to dim sum, along with craft cocktails, into the wee hours. It draws a hip crowd craving late-night DJ beats in the courtyard with a side of sushi or poke bowls. They’ve also added a private karaoke room to their offerings.
Brick
With an expansive open-air patio, Brick is part beer garden and part al fresco nightclub. With a full food menu and extensive beer and whiskey list, the vibe transforms from casual after-work hangout to crowded dance floor with DJs spinning beneath the stars into the early hours.
Rácket
Rácket provides one of Wynwood’s more high-energy nightlife experiences. You’ll find headliner DJs and packed crowds dancing late-night throughout the outdoor atrium and multiple bars. There’s also a pool table, jukebox and projectors for sports nights. If you get hungry during your revelry, not to worry. They also serve up a full food menu.
