An Evening with Gavin Newsom
Mar 13, 2026
Starting: 6:30 PM
California Governor Gavin Newsom discusses his memoir Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery at the Adrienne Arsht Center on Friday, March 13. The evening is presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center and Books & Books.
In Young Man in a Hurry, Newsom reflects on the formative experiences that shaped his path from entrepreneur to one of the nation’s most prominent elected officials. He writes candidly about growing up with dyslexia, launching a small business in San Francisco, serving as the city’s youngest mayor in a century and navigating the personal and political challenges that followed. The memoir traces his evolution through high-profile policy battles and national debates, offering insight into the personal convictions behind his public leadership.
Newsom has served as Governor of California since 2019, previously holding office as Lieutenant Governor and Mayor of San Francisco. Known for his role in advancing same-sex marriage in San Francisco in 2004 and for leading the state through major crises including wildfires and the COVID-19 pandemic, he remains a prominent figure in contemporary American politics.
Every full-price ticket includes a copy of Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery.
