Brenda Navarrete: The Energy of the Drum

A hands-on rhythm workshop invites participants of all ages to explore Afro-Cuban music through movement, percussion and collective play.

Brenda Navarrete: The Energy of the Drum takes place on Saturday, January 17 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Coral Gables Museum. Led by vocalist and percussionist Brenda Navarrete, the session introduces Afro-Cuban rhythms through a combination of traditional percussion, body percussion, clapping and movement, emphasizing participation over performance.

Designed for families, youth and adults, the workshop requires no prior musical experience and focuses on rhythm as a shared, physical language. Participants are guided through playful exercises that encourage creativity, focus and connection, highlighting how the body itself can function as a musical instrument. The experience offers an accessible entry point into Afro-Cuban musical traditions while fostering collaboration and expression.
