A playful exploration of love, loyalty and disguise unfolds through Mozart’s sharp wit and radiant music, reimagined in a contemporary setting that leans into glamour and theatrical mischief. This production reframes Così fan tutte as a stylish ocean voyage, where shifting identities and romantic tests play out against a backdrop of nautical elegance and Riviera-inspired flair.
With a libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, the opera’s comic surface masks a pointed examination of human desire and emotional honesty. Mozart’s score remains central, carrying the drama through buoyant ensembles, lyrical arias and finely tuned musical irony. Under the stage direction of Jeffrey Buchman and the musical leadership of conductor Yun Xuan Cao and music director Jenny Snyder, the Frost Opera Theater joins forces with the Frost Symphony Orchestra for a production that balances visual reinvention with musical fidelity. Choreography by Rosa Mercedes adds physical momentum to the unfolding intrigue.
Così fan tutte by W.A. Mozart is presented by Frost Opera Theater and the Frost Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, February 26 and Saturday, February 28 at UM Gusman Concert Hall. The performances are part of the Frost School of Music’s Signature Events lineup for the 2025-2026 season.
