Curator Talks: Ryan Inouye

Contemporary curatorial practice and the relationships between artists and institutions come into focus in a talk with Ryan Inouye at Locust Projects. Taking place Wednesday, September 30, the program marks the return of Locust Projects’ Curator Talks series, which brings visiting curators to Miami to discuss the artists, ideas and approaches shaping their work. Each participating curator also conducts studio visits with Miami-based artists, extending the program beyond the public conversation into direct exchange with the local arts community.

Inouye is curator of international art at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh and one of the three Kathe and Jim Patrinos Curators of If the word we: 59th Carnegie International. The exhibition brings together 61 artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, performance and theater, with an emphasis on artistic practices that explore social life, cultural knowledge and relationships across geographic boundaries.

His previous positions include senior curator at Sharjah Art Foundation, associate curator of Sharjah Biennial 12 and curatorial roles at New York’s New Museum and REDCAT in Los Angeles. Presented by Vivant, the Curator Talks program runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
