Exhibit Closing Event - Salvaged: Nature’s Readymades

A closing reception offers a final opportunity to view Yusimy Lara’s sculptural exploration of memory, migration and material transformation at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus Art Gallery. Taking place Thursday, October 1, the event marks the conclusion of Salvaged: Nature’s Readymades, a solo exhibition curated by Liliam Dominguez and presented by Deering Estate.

The exhibition features new work by the Miami-based artist using storm-stripped palm fronds, sea-worn shells and asphalt residue alongside concrete, rebar and other materials associated with construction and urban change. Drawing on the shared limestone geology beneath Havana and Miami, Lara considers migration, erosion and the ways natural and built environments preserve traces of the past.

Born in Havana, Lara later lived in Rome before earning a BFA in sculpture from New World School of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited at venues including Deering Estate, the Lowe Art Museum, Kampong Botanical Garden and Fredric Snitzer Gallery.
