GAME TIME: Dialogues on Art, Sports, and Headlines
Mar 19, 2026 - Mar 20, 2026
From: 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Explore the cultural crossover between athletics and contemporary art during a two-day series of conversations, readings and film at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Timed to the opening weekend of Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture, this public program brings together artists, athletes, journalists, poets and curators to examine how sports shape headlines, identity and creative expression.
GAME TIME: Dialogues on Art, Sports, and Headlines takes place March 19-20 at PAMM. Across both days, panel discussions will consider topics ranging from the evolution of sports journalism and the cultural production surrounding global events to the influence of basketball, boxing and professional wrestling within contemporary art. Featured participants include artists Hank Willis Thomas, Tabitha Soren and Shaun Leonardo, poet and cultural critic Hanif Abdurraqib, former NFL player and sportscaster Desmond Howard and writers and curators from institutions including the Smithsonian and The New Yorker.
Highlights include readings presented in partnership with the O, Miami Poetry Festival and the US premiere of On the Line, a documentary filmed over a decade that follows three professional boxers as they pursue world championship titles. Evening receptions on the museum’s waterfront terrace and in the Miami Design District will further extend the dialogue into social settings.
Admission is $18 for adults and free for PAMM members. The program coincides with Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture, a major exhibition featuring more than 100 works that examine the intersections of sport, spectacle and artistic practice.
