Henry Mancini Reimagined: HMI Big Band

Classic film and jazz melodies by Henry Mancini are recast through contemporary big-band arrangements at Newman Recital Hall. Presented Thursday, October 8, as part of Frost Music Live’s 2026-2027 season, the concert features the Henry Mancini Institute Big Band performing new interpretations created by members of Frost’s Studio Jazz Writing program.
The program approaches Mancini’s music as a foundation for fresh harmonic, rhythmic and textural ideas, allowing emerging composers and arrangers to place their own voices alongside his cinematic jazz legacy. Each arrangement balances recognizable melodic material with the broader palette of a modern large ensemble.
The free performance takes place at the Knight Center for Music Innovation.
