Hollywood and History: Stepping into Hollywood's Golden Age

Film clips, musical numbers and comedy reveal how shoes became visual symbols in Hollywood films from the silent era through the 1950s. The program takes place Friday, October 2 at The Wolfsonian-FIU in Miami Beach. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Foot Notes: Shoes, Symbolism, and Society, the discussion explores the music and historical context surrounding footwear on screen.

Chief librarian Frank Luca and digitization specialist Hannah Gauthier will introduce selections including Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush (1925), the MGM comedy short New Shoes (1936) and the Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse musical Silk Stockings (1957).

Tickets are $15 or $10 for Wolfsonian members, FIU faculty and FIU students. Admission is free for Director’s Circle members.
