Allapattah’s oral histories, archival photographs and personal narratives frame a bilingual exhibition connecting local community stories to the broader American experience. Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras will be on view at Coral Gables Museum from Wednesday, July 1 through Sunday, September 6. Organized by The Allapattah Collaborative CDC and presented in partnership with Coral Gables Museum, the exhibition is part of the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Developed through the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street initiative, the project uses Allapattah as a starting point for exploring cultural exchange, identity, belonging and the traditions that shape South Florida. Presented in English and Spanish, the exhibition brings together oral histories, historical documents, photographs and firsthand accounts to reflect on the meaning of E pluribus unum, “Out of many, one.”
The presentation is accompanied by public programs, conversations and family activities that expand on the histories and cultural perspectives represented in the installation.
