MOCA Book Club Discussion Meeting

Miami identity, memory and myth-making come into focus through a community discussion of Jennine Capó Crucet’s novel Say Hello to My Little Friend at MOCA North Miami. Taking place Sunday, October 4, the gathering is part of the museum’s Book Club series and is inspired by themes connected to its South Florida Cultural Consortium exhibition.

Set in Miami, the novel follows Izzy, a failed Pitbull impersonator whose pursuit of reinvention leads him from fantasies of Tony Montana-style power to an encounter with a captive orca at the Miami Seaquarium. Blending satire, surrealism and local references, the book examines ambition, belonging and the stories Miami tells about itself.

The discussion is designed as a shared conversation around the novel’s treatment of South Florida culture, identity and memory.
