An outdoor film screening closes out the City of Miami Beach’s Black History Month programming with a story of perseverance, family and vision.
Movies in the Park: King Richard takes place Saturday, February 28 at Altos Del Mar Park. The 2021 biographical drama chronicles the true story of Richard Williams, portrayed by Will Smith, and his unconventional approach to coaching his daughters Venus and Serena Williams from the public tennis courts of Compton to the world’s biggest stages. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film explores themes of determination, parental sacrifice and belief in the face of systemic barriers, highlighting the early years that shaped two of the most influential athletes in sports history. King Richard received widespread acclaim, including an Academy Award for Best Actor for Smith, and has been recognized for its portrayal of Black excellence, resilience and family legacy.
Presented as part of the City of Miami Beach’s Black History Month programming, the free outdoor screening begins at 6 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and settle in for a relaxed evening under the stars. Complimentary popcorn will be provided, with additional refreshments available for purchase.
