Starting: 08:00 PM
A season finale at the Adrienne Arsht Center pairs orchestral spectacle with contemporary star power as Nu Deco Ensemble collaborates with Wyclef Jean and Ledisi. Taking place on Saturday, April 11, the program bridges classical and popular music, combining Gustav Holst’s The Planets with a newly created symphonic suite inspired by the music of the Bee Gees.
Holst’s early 20th-century work anchors the evening with its expansive, cinematic movements depicting the astrological characters of the planets. In contrast, Nu Deco’s writing collective presents a reimagined orchestral tribute to the Bee Gees, developed in collaboration with guitarist Steve Gibb, son of Barry Gibb, who joins the ensemble for the performance. The program also incorporates appearances by Wyclef Jean, known for his cross-genre influence spanning hip hop and global music, and Grammy-winning vocalist Ledisi.
Founded in 2015 by Jacomo Bairos and Sam Hyken, Miami’s Nu Deco Ensemble is acclaimed for its genre-bending collaborations and inventive reimaginings that bridge classical tradition with pop, jazz and global influences. Praised by The New York Times as a “chamber orchestra for the 21st century,” the group continues to push the boundaries of what orchestral music can be in contemporary culture.
