From: 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
A morning program combining public art, ecology and community activities marks the unveiling of a new work in the Coral Gables Library Butterfly Garden.
Planting Pollinators: Sculpture Unveiling takes place on Saturday, December 6, introducing a new public artwork by Miami artist Xavier Cortada. The event begins with a dedication ceremony and unveiling, followed by a Flower Force activation. Concurrent activities include an artist talk in the library auditorium and children’s crafts such as caterpillar necklaces and butterfly wreaths, along with a complimentary pollinator-themed coloring book.
Cortada, an internationally recognized artist whose socially engaged eco-art projects address climate change, sea level rise and biodiversity loss, has created more than 150 public artworks across six continents and served as Miami-Dade County’s inaugural artist-in-residence. His practice often incorporates community participation to highlight environmental interconnectedness, a focus reflected in this new installation.
The event is free and open to all ages.
