Salon Series: Syncopate Collective

Contemporary dance, theater and new choreography come together in a Salon Series program by Miami-based Syncopate Collective. Salon Series: Syncopate Collective runs Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16 at The Moss Center, with evening performances Friday and Saturday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and a Sunday matinee from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The program features two world premieres by company artists Deja Darbonne and Cecilia Benitez. Darbonne’s Metamorphosis is performed by five dancers and explores transformation through shifting thoughts, memories, desires and distractions, tracing a movement journey from release to renewal.

Benitez’s Asimilado is a dance theater work that examines assimilation, identity and the tensions embedded in the pursuit of the American Dream. Through dance, song and text, the piece considers how belonging can reshape personal values and asks what may be lost when people attempt to fit into dominant cultural expectations.
