SoundScape Cinema Series: Loving Vincent
Apr 22, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
The life and legacy of Vincent van Gogh unfold through hand-painted animation during an outdoor screening at SoundScape Park.
SoundScape Cinema Series: Loving Vincent takes place Wednesday, April 22 at SoundScape Park. Directed by Dorota Kobiela, the 2017 film tells van Gogh’s story using a groundbreaking technique in which every frame is rendered as an oil painting. More than 65,000 individual paintings were created by a team of artists, animating the film entirely in the painter’s distinctive visual style while blending biography, mystery and art history.
The narrative centers on an investigation into van Gogh’s final days, weaving together interpretations of his relationships, inner life and unresolved death. Shot first as a live-action production and then painted frame by frame, the film offers a rare fusion of performance and visual art that places storytelling directly within the medium of paint.
The screening is part of the City of Miami Beach’s SoundScape Cinema Series and begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free with no ticket required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall.
