The Infancy of Hip Hop Throwdown
Aug 15, 2026
Starting: 7:00 PM
A high-energy dance performance traces the early foundations of hip hop through movement, music and cultural storytelling on stage. Taking place Saturday, August 15 at the Sandrell Rivers Theater, the production is led by choreographer Zedric Bembry and the Live and In Color Dance Company.
The program explores the origins of hip hop culture, incorporating choreography inspired by the innovation of extended drum breaks, turntable techniques and the emergence of DJ-driven sound. Set to music associated with pioneers such as Grandmaster Flash, the performance reflects the genre’s evolution from its earliest expressions to a global cultural force.
Presented as part of the Caleb Around Town “Black Birth of Music Series,” the event situates hip hop within a broader historical context, highlighting its roots and influence.
