Third Horizon x PAMM CCI: Waves in the Eyes
Aug 13, 2026
From: 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Haitian filmmaker Samuel Suffren explores migration, memory and national identity through a workshop, three short films and an artist conversation at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). The program takes place Thursday, Auguts 13 in collaboration with Third Horizon Film Festival and PAMM’s Caribbean Cultural Institute. Together, the films trace Haitian resilience, longing and joy through stories shaped by departure and those who remain behind.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., Suffren leads a workshop for filmmakers, artists and the general public centered on his creative process. Using film clips, visual references and sound, he will discuss the influence of Haitian art on his work, his blending of fiction and documentary and his approach to cinematic time.
The screening runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and includes Agwe, Dreams Like Paper Boats and Blue Heart. Inspired by Suffren’s father’s 1981 boat journey from Haiti with 22 other migrants, the trilogy considers separation, hope and the elusive promise of the American Dream from the perspective of family members who stay behind. All three films are presented in Haitian with English subtitles.
