Historic Virginia Key Beach Park: MLK Day of Service
Jan 19, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Service, education and community connection take center stage at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The MLK Day of Service at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park invites volunteers to participate in a meaningful morning of hands-on service and cultural learning at one of Miami’s most historically significant sites. Activities include a beach cleanup, trail maintenance and opportunities to support the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust during the MLK Day Parade by distributing park giveaways alongside staff.
In addition to service projects, the program features educational experiences that highlight the park’s civil rights legacy, including a guided civil rights tour and a mobile museum, offering context on the site’s role in Miami’s Black history and the broader struggle for equality. Light bites and music round out the morning, creating a welcoming atmosphere for volunteers of all ages.
Volunteer activities take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, January 19, with check-in at the park’s concession stand area. Participants can earn volunteer service hours while contributing to the preservation and stewardship of this landmark coastal park. Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor conditions and light physical activity.
Advance registration is required, and minors must be accompanied by an adult and submit signed waivers. This MLK Day activation offers a thoughtful way to honor Dr. King’s legacy through action, education and community care at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park.
