North Beach Social: Sonora Tukukuy

Vibe to the infectious rhythms of cumbia as Miami’s dynamic collective Sonora Tukukuy brings their high-energy sound and special guests to the Bandshell stage.

North Beach Social: Sonora Tukukuy takes place Thursday, December 18 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Miami Beach Bandshell, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Based in Allapattah, the group has quickly risen since forming in 2023, evolving from neighborhood house parties to club stages and national festivals.

Drawing from traditional Latin American cumbia interwoven with contemporary influences, Sonora Tukukuy reflects the cultural diversity of Miami’s music scene. Formed by veterans of the local Latin-funk-rock scene, the group blends deep respect for cumbia’s roots with a fresh, accessible sound that resonates with new audiences. Their performances celebrate the pan-Latin heritage central to Miami’s identity, bridging tradition and innovation to contribute to cumbia’s growing popularity among younger listeners. The evening will include guest performers who further explore cumbia’s evolution and contemporary relevance.

Admission is free. North Beach Social takes place on the third Thursday of each month at the Bandshell, highlighting Miami artists celebrating milestones, new releases and ambitious creative projects. The series is presented by Rhythm Foundation.
