How To Use Miami's Trolleys

Coral Gables Trolley at a stop

How To Use Miami's Trolleys

By Jessica Poitevien - June 26, 2025

Exploring Greater Miami & Miami Beach without a car is a breeze thanks to the area’s convenient trolley system. Designed to mimic the old-fashioned trolleys that zipped through Miami in the early 20th century, today’s network features air-conditioned buses that are fun to ride and free. They cover wide swaths of the area, and you can hop on and off at any stop to get to the destination’s top attractions and more. Each trolley is also accessible, with a wheelchair lift plus a rack for two bicycles.

Here’s your guide to using the trolley systems that serve Miami Beach, the City of Miami, Coral Gables, Doral and Miami Gardens.

    City of Miami Trolleys

    Operating Hours: Monday-Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Frequency: Every 15 to 45 minutes

The City of Miami’s network of free trolleys offers service through 13 neighborhoods, including hot spots like Downtown Miami, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Little Havana and Wynwood. While service on Monday through Saturday is consistent across all routes, only a handful are available on Sundays, including the Allapattah, Biscayne and Little Haiti routes. Holidays also impact service, with trolleys running 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all routes except Overtown, which has service from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The City of Miami occasionally expands trolley service for special events, including Miami Heat games and Art Basel.

Be sure to download the City of Miami Trolley App (available for iPhone and Android) for the most-up-to-date information and live trolley tracking.

    Miami Beach Trolleys

    Operating Hours: Daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
    Frequency: Every 20 minutes

The Miami Beach trolley system is made up of five routes. Separate loops serve North Beach, Mid Beach and South Beach, and the Collins Express trolley connects them all, making it easy to explore Miami Beach from top to bottom. For Mount Sinai Medical Center, hop on the Mount Sinai Link, which has connections with the Middle Beach and North Beach loops as well as the Collins Express. The Mount Sinai link operates every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at a service frequency of 60-70 minutes.

The South Beach trolley runs mostly along Alton Road and Washington Avenue, stretching north from the southern tip of the island to 23rd Street.

The Middle Beach loop starts at Lincoln Road and operates along Dade Boulevard and Collins Avenue, running north to 44th Street.

The North Beach loop makes stops between 65th and 88th streets.

With connections to several Metrorail stations, the trolleys are not only perfect for exploring Doral but also serve as a gateway to the rest of Miami. Schedules vary widely depending on the route, so be sure to download the Doral Trolley Tracker app for Android and iPhone for the latest timetables and live updates.

    Route 1, the Crosstown Connector, runs weekdays from 6:10 a.m. to 9:20 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Grand Avenue trolley runs north and south from the Douglas Metrorail Station through the historic McFarlane Homestead District. The trolley does not run on Sundays, July 4th, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. You can download the trolley tracker for Android and iPhone.
