By Shayne Benowitz - February 06, 2025

If you’re traveling to Greater Miami & Miami Beach with your dog, you’ll be happy to know that it’s home to a wonderful array of dog-friendly beaches and parks. Get ready to explore the destination with your dog as they run in the sand, splash in the surf and roll around in the green grass. Our handy guide to dog-friendly beaches and parks will have you and your dog soaking up the sun in no time. Just remember to pack water, always carry a leash, pick up after your pet and be careful that they don’t overheat.

    Dog-Friendly Beaches

Haulover Beach & Park: Take Your Dog For a Picnic & a Day at the Beach

Haulover Park & Beach is a dog-friendly haven. Situated across the Haulover Inlet from Bal Harbour, it spans roughly two miles of beachfront with an adjacent park overlooking Biscayne Bay. Dogs are permitted off-leash on the beach with their owners between lifeguard towers 2 and 3. Directly across from the dog-friendly section of the beach, you’ll find Haulover Park’s small and large dog runs featuring shade trees, picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains, waste bags and waste containers. While access to the beach and park are technically free, there is a small parking fee.

Hobie Island Beach Park: Your Dog’s Island Paradise

On the drive from the mainland to Key Biscayne, you’ll find a sliver of sand overlooking Biscayne Bay directly off the Rickenbacker Causeway. This is Hobie Island Beach Park, a popular destination for Miami’s local kite surfers, windsurfers, kayakers and paddleboarders. It’s also a dog-friendly beach where your pup can run off-leash, splash in the surf and socialize freely with other dogs.

Teddy & Daisy Have New Places To Play In Miami Beach

Miami Beach recently expanded its dog-friendly beach access to three distinct areas.

    South Beach, 21st Street

In South Beach, dogs are welcome on the beach at 21st Street from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. November through March and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. April through October. During these times, dogs can roam free off-leash in designated areas, but owners must carry a leash at all times.

    Mid Beach, 53rd Street

The 53rd Street beachfront area in Mid Beach is another designated dog-friendly beach with the same permissible hours as the South Beach location: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. November through March and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. April through October.

    North Beach, 81st Street

The beach at 81st Street in North Beach, lovingly referred to as Bark Beach, is Miami Beach’s original dog-friendly beach. It welcomes dogs off-leash in designated areas from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. November through March and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. April through October. On Friday through Sunday, it also allows dogs in the afternoon, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. November through February and from 3 to 7 p.m. March through October.

Also in North Beach, the adjacent North Beach Oceanside Park is home to two separate enclosed dog runs, and the entire park is pet-friendly as long as they’re on a leash. The beautifully landscaped green space also features jogging trails, benches, palm trees and picnic pavilions.

    Dog Parks

South Pointe Park: A Place For Your Dog To Run & Enjoy The Views

At the southern tip of South Beach, South Pointe Park boasts panoramic views of the beach, Fisher Island and PortMiami. A designated grassy area allows dogs off-leash from sunrise to 10 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Note that the area is not enclosed, so you’ll have to be comfortable with your dog off-leash without fences. It’s a lovely place to start your morning or wind down your evening with your pup.

Belle Isle Park: Serenity For You & Your Dog

Set on a small residential island along the Venetian Causeway, which connects South Beach to Downtown Miami, Belle Isle Park is home to both a small and large dog park with bench seating, waste receptacles, doggy-bag dispensers and a dog bowl fountain. It’s a serene oasis just beyond the action of South Beach with water views on the horizon.

East Greynolds Park: Run Free … And Maybe Go Fishing

Just off Biscayne Boulevard, nestled on the shores of Maule Lake on an inlet near Oleta River, East Greynolds Park is a scenic park in North Miami Beach. You’ll find a dog park where dogs can run freely off-leash as well as a fishing dock, a kayak launch, playgrounds, picnic shelters and a walking path.

Dog Spot: A Shaded, Artsy Place For Your Pup To Play

Beneath the shade of the Metromover overpass at Northeast First Street and Second Avenue in Downtown Miami, Dog Spot is one of Miami’s newest dog runs, featuring a fenced-in area with artificial grass and colorful, mural-like illustrations of dogs. It’s a great place for your pup to play off-leash.

Blanche Park: Your Dog’s Favorite Place In The Grove

Blanche Park in Coconut Grove is a leafy place for dogs to play. There’s an enclosed dog park for off-leash exercise as well as a playground, picnic tables and plenty of parking.

Tropical Park: An Urban Oasis For Your Pet

Tropical Park is one of the area’s great parks. Spanning 275 acres in Westchester, it’s an urban oasis featuring athletic fields, a fitness center, paved trails for biking, walking and jogging, an equestrian center, a boxing center, a tennis center, a lake for paddleboating, a weekend farmer’s market and so much more. Amidst all this is a spacious two-acre dog park where pets can roam free off-leash, climb on fun play equipment and cool off in the shade. There are plenty of seating areas, so you can sit back and watch your pup have a blast.

Amelia Earhart Park: Run, Swim & Try The Doggy Obstacle Course

Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah spans over 500 acres with countless diversions and activities, from a water sports complex for wakeboarding to a petting zoo and trails for mountain biking. It’s also home to a five-acre dog park separated into a small and large dog run with washing and grooming areas, doggy swimming pools and an obstacle course.

Miami Springs Dog Park: Big Dogs Here, Small Dogs There

Located across the street from Miami Springs High School, the Miami Springs Dog Park is a wonderful destination for you and your dog. The shaded grassy park in Miami Springs features separate fenced areas for small and large dogs and ample benches where owners can relax and watch all the fun.

Great Places to Walk Your Dog

In addition to the area’s dog-friendly beaches and parks, there are plenty of pleasant places to walk your dog on a leash. Miami Beach’s Beachwalk is a paved oceanfront path that connects the entire length of Miami Beach. Occupying nearly half of Key Biscayne, Crandon Park is an oasis with shady walking trails perfect for a leisurely dog walk.

Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami offers sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the city skyline while you and your dog get some exercise. In the heart of Brickell nearby, Simpson Park is a lush nature preserve and tropical hammock offering a tranquil retreat, perfect for strolling with your four-legged best friend. It’s close to a beautiful residential expanse of South Miami Avenue, which makes for another lovely walk, especially at sunset.
