Miami's Best Running Routes

By Eli Raphael - February 17, 2026

Whether you're training for a 5K, joining a corporate run in Greater Miami & Miami Beach or just looking to stay active while exploring the area, Miami offers a variety of picturesque paths to get your heart pumping.

With year-round sunshine and a landscape that includes everything from coastal views to shaded park trails, runners have endless options to choose from. Here are the top running routes in Miami.

Runners and bicyclists on the Beachwalk
Enjoy scenic views from the Beachwalk.

    South Beach Beachwalk

Starting Point: South Pointe Park Pier, 1 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
    Distance: 4 miles one way
Highlights: Oceanfront views, people-watching, palm-lined paths

One of the most iconic running routes in South Beach, the Beachwalk stretches from South Pointe Park all the way to 46th Street. This scenic, well-maintained path takes you past sandy beaches, Art Deco buildings and some of the destination's most famous hotels. It's perfect for early morning runs or sunset jogs, with plenty of water fountains and restrooms along the way.

    The Underline

Starting Point: Brickell Metrorail Station, 1001 SW 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33130
Distance: 10 miles (can run segments)
Highlights: Urban art, shaded pathways, fitness stations

The Underline is a unique urban trail project transforming the space beneath the Metrorail into a linear park. It’s a favorite for running groups, thanks to its central location and accessibility. With designated lanes for cyclists and pedestrians, this route, which begins in Brickell and ends in Dadeland, is ideal for a safe and scenic city run.

    Coconut Grove Waterfront Path

Starting Point: Peacock Park, 2820 McFarlane Rd Suite 2, Miami, FL 33133
    Distance: 3 miles roundtrip
Highlights: Waterfront views, marina scenery, tree-lined streets

Winding through Coconut Grove, Miami’s oldest neighborhood, this path takes runners along the Biscayne Bay shoreline. Start at Peacock Park and make your way past the marina, through quiet streets shaded by banyan trees, and into David T. Kennedy Park. This is a great loop for runners who enjoy calm, scenic surroundings.

Key Biscayne And Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Starting Point: Crandon Park, 6747 Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne, FL 33149
    Distance: Up to 8 miles
Highlights: Beachfront trails, lighthouse views, natural terrain

For a more immersive experience in nature, head to Key Biscayne. Start your run in Crandon Park and continue south into the tree-lined trails of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. You'll pass palm groves, sandy paths and perhaps even spot wildlife. This is one of the top trails in Miami for those who want a mix of beach scenery and park terrain.

    Rickenbacker Causeway at sunset
Experience the Rickenbacker's incline and views.

    Rickenbacker Causeway

Starting Point: Alice C. Wainwright Park, 2651 Brickell Ave, Miami, FL 33133
Distance: 9 miles roundtrip to Key Biscayne entrance
Highlights: Bay views, skyline backdrops, long-distance option

This popular route is favored by both runners and cyclists. Start at Alice C. Wainwright Park, which happens to be one of the few protected upland plant communities in South Florida, and head across the bridge to Key Biscayne. The steady incline offers a good challenge, and the views of Biscayne Bay and the Downtown Miami skyline are unrivaled. It’s also a great choice for anyone training for 5K runs.

Wooden bridge and trees at Oleta River Park
Try the rugged hike at Oleta River State Park.

    Oleta River State Park

Starting Point: 3400 NE 163rd St, North Miami Beach, FL 33160
    Distance: 3-6 miles (trail variations)
Highlights: Off-road trails, shaded paths, wildlife sightings

Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach is a haven for trail runners. The park features a network of off-road paths through mangroves and forested areas. It's one of the most rugged hikes in Miami, but also one of the most rewarding.

    Venetian bridge and blue water
Go on a run on the picturesque Venetian Causeway.

    Venetian Causeway

Starting Point: Maurice Gibb Memorial Park, 18th St & Purdy Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
    Distance: 6 miles roundtrip
Highlights: Waterfront homes, historic bridges, tranquil vibe

Linking Miami Beach to the mainland, the Venetian Causeway offers runners a quiet, picturesque route over a series of small islands. It’s a favorite among running enthusiasts for its serene, skyline views. Start in Miami Beach and cross into Downtown Miami for a run that feels both urban and peaceful.

    Tropical Park

Starting Point: 7900 SW 40th St, Miami, FL 33155
Distance: 2-mile loop (with additional trails)
Highlights: Track facilities, lakeside paths, community vibe

If you're looking for a controlled environment with multiple options, Tropical Park in Westchester delivers. There’s a 2-mile loop around the park’s perimeter, a proper running track and several smaller trails around the lake. It’s perfect for interval training, long runs or family jogs.

    Matheson Hammock Park Trail

Starting Point: 9610 Old Cutler Rd, Coral Gables, FL 33156
    Distance: 3 miles roundtrip
Highlights: Canopy-covered trails, bay views, coral rock formations

Nestled in Coral Gables, the trail in Matheson Hammock Park offers shade and serenity, making it a perfect option for midday runs. The route winds through lush vegetation and scenic views of Biscayne Bay. It’s ideal for runners who want to mix natural beauty with a bit of history. The trail also borders Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden for those who wish to sneak in a slower-paced outdoor adventure before or after a run.

    Amelia Earhart Park

    Starting Point: 401 E 65th St, Hialeah, FL 33013
    Distance: 5-mile loop (various paths)
Highlights: Lakes, dirt trails, wide open spaces

The 515-acre Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah is popular with local running groups. The park’s mix of dirt trails and paved loops caters to runners of all levels. With plenty of open space and a relaxed vibe, it’s a fantastic place for a weekend workout or group run.
