What Attracted You to Visit Miami?
We came to Miami in mid-February. We were looking for an easy destination for us to escape to; and being that we're big foodies, Miami was on our visit list because there's a very good food scene in the city. We were also looking to visit a place that had beach and water access. Miami was the perfect combination of everything we wanted. It was the perfect opportunity to go somewhere that was a little more sunny, tropical and nice.

What Makes Miami a Great Foodie Destination?
I think having a diverse food scene is something that's important to us – it draws our attention. Unique food experiences are like a jackpot to us, so one example of that was when we did the Little Havana culinary tour offered by Miami Culinary Tours. The tour offered a little bit of history. We learned about Miami and Little Havana and got to taste good food that we probably wouldn’t have tried on our own. I mean, we do have Cuban restaurants in Atlanta, but there's no place like Little Havana to have the most authentic food.
The MICHELIN Guide recently recognized Miami restaurants and the quality of food in the city, so that’s another thing that attracted us. We love popping around where MICHELIN-recommended restaurants are in any city, but Miami is where people are talking the most about the food scene and how unique it is.

What Makes Miami Unique?
There's something for everyone in Miami. I know that's a plain statement, but I really think there’s plenty to enjoy, and for us foodies, it has it all – from cheap eats to luxury dining to drag brunches! There's literally anything and everything in between, and not just for food, but in general.
Miami has a great sports scene. Arts and culture as well. I could see myself living in Miami because there's an endless number of possibilities and things to do, places to see, food to try, and I want to do it all.
Where Did You Stay?
The Eden Roc Miami Beach & Nobu Hotel Miami Beach in Miami Beach is a great hotel. The view from our room was amazing, the staff was nice and it had really good dining options, including Nobu and an oceanfront restaurant called Ocean Social. I also loved that I was able to run along that beach every morning on the boardwalk path. We had a great experience, and the hotel really checked all the boxes for us when it comes to food, hospitality, cleanliness, activities – all the things we love.

Is Miami a Gay-Friendly Destination?
Miami is probably one of the first places I think of when I think of a gay-friendly city. We never felt like we had to be cautious of our surroundings during our stay. Going to places like R House in Wynwood or Palace in South Beach and being around other people like us makes this city feel very welcoming. As a recently married couple, we felt like we could be ourselves and be comfortable, whether it was holding hands or interacting with our friends, being loud or just having a good time. Miami is a place where you can be authentic and you don’t have to hide.
The R House drag brunch was one of the highlights of our trip! It was such a large production – it’s nowhere near that scale in Atlanta, so that was amazing to see. Every seat in the house was full, and it seemed to have a great community behind it. We were able to have fun, let loose and see all walks of life.
What Cultural Activities in Miami Did You Enjoy the Most?
Wynwood Walls was incredible; it was a great outdoor interactive experience. I loved being outdoors, and it was great to learn about that neighborhood and see all the artwork. The freestyle graffiti experience was fun – a total bucket list thing.

What Were a Few of Your Favorite Food Spots in Miami?
Klaw, in Downtown Miami, was the dining experience we enjoyed the most. We ordered the Norwegian King Crab, and it was a unique tableside experience, including a declawing demonstration. From the oysters to the crudo – literally everything was good. There was no miss on that meal.
In Little Havana, we visited Old’s’ Havana Cuban Bar & Cocina and learned how to make traditional mojitos – and the fun fact that one should use bitters to balance out the drink so it’s not too sweet. We loved it so much that we now try to always order our mojitos with bitters. This tour was another highlight of our trip.

We were also super impressed with the brunch at Mirabella at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. The restaurant is stunning – it reminds me of the Amalfi Coast. The brunch buffet was elevated and offered things such as oysters Rockefeller, a variety of breads, sushi and sashimi. They also had a Bloody Mary bar cart experience with a fun presentation. Other standout dishes were the French toast, the eggs Benedict and crab legs.
