LGBTQ travelers heading to Greater Miami & Miami Beach will find the nightlife as dynamic and vibrant as the rest of what the destination offers. From enjoying a drag show over brunch or lounging at a daytime pool party to hitting the high notes at karaoke or dancing the night away, a great time awaits you. Here’s some of the best gay bars and nightclubs in the area to get your evening going.

Drag performer at the Palace
Prepare for fun at The Palace's brunch

Palace

The legendary Palace in South Beach has been an Ocean Drive mainstay since it first opened its doors in 1988, very quickly becoming a LGBTQ+ hot spot and the go-to place before or after a day at the 11th/12th Street gay beach, just as it remains today.

Whether it’s a daily drag show over lunch or dinner or a festive weekend drag brunch, the Palace’s drag artists – among Miami’s very best, such as Tiffany Fantasia and CC Glitzer – are always entertaining.

With a large open-air patio and sidewalk seating, the performances often spill out onto the street. Make sure to also visit the Palace’s Rooftop Bar for panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Lummus Park and the surrounding skyline.

Disco ballsGet your groove on at Twist

Twist

As the Twist saying goes, “Never a cover, always a groove.” And it’s a groove this iconic South Beach gay bar has delivered since its founding in 1993. With seven bars and three dance floors, every room has its own distinctive vibe.

Drag shows are offered throughout the week, whether the drag artists are high kicking to a song or performing a live comedy routine. Twist’s resident DJs provide the beats in the Main Room that keep everyone firmly on the dance floor, with guest DJs appearing on the weekend.

An extended daily happy hour with two-for-one drinks is yet another reason Twist is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Bartender making cocktails at GaytheringJoin the fun with cocktails and karaoke nights at Gaythering Bar

Gaythering Bar

Located in South Beach on the western end of Lincoln Road, the Gaythering Bar is inside the Hotel Gaythering, a gay boutique hotel in a classic MiMo era architectural gem. The Gaythering Bar delivers it all – craft and seasonal cocktails, locally brewed IPAs and a daily happy hour.

Themed nights, hosted by a coterie of drag starlets, include ones for karaoke and bingo, as well as a trivia night, where locals and guests compete for a bar tab. When the show is in season, there’s even a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” viewing party.

In addition to relaxing at the bar, the hotel also has a men’s sauna, with day memberships available for non-hotel guests.

Drag close-upCatch a show by the many talented drag divas at R House

R House

Under the direction of Chef Rocco Carulli and his husband and business partner Owen Bale, R House takes the drag-n-dine concept to new heights.

Located in Miami’s exciting Wynwood neighborhood, a former warehouse district transformed into an eclectic art and culture hub, R House’s weekend drag extravaganzas are not to be missed.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons are for brunches, featuring nonstop entertainment by R House’s fabulous drag artists, including Athena Dion, the resident drag godmother.

By night, Friday is Yas Queen and Saturday is R’ Chateau, where the drag queens reign over R House as guests enjoy dinner. Afterward, the restaurant turns into a dance floor for a high-energy party powered by a lineup of local DJs.

Azucar

For the definitive Latin LGBTQ club experience, visit Azucar Nightclub near Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

Situated off Coral Way, Azucar Nightclub’s fierce resident drag artists perform in a state-of-the-art theater setting, which also makes it ideal for cabaret revues and hosting drag pageants, like the annual Miss Azucar.

The DJs keep the energy pumping and the dance floor full as they spin Latin, house, pop and reggaeton. Azucar is Spanish for sugar – a fitting name for the sweetest of gay Latin clubs.

Foxhole

Fridays and Saturdays are all about the Foxhole in South Beach. Hosted by drag diva Dasha Sweetwaters, all sounds are provided by Smith or guest DJs.

Along with showing Smith’s exclusive video remixes, the nights are filled with drag, fun and the Foxes – the dancers who get go-going at midnight.

This gem has no cover charge and an alley entrance between Alton Road and West Avenue. Stay tuned, as Smith plans to soon program the full week.

Wanderlust Cafe & Lounge

Offering classic American comfort food with an international flair, the LGBTQ-owned and operated Wanderlust Cafe & Lounge in South Beach serves up an equally appetizing menu of entertainment.

The cafe’s weekly lineup includes Monday night’s Drag Bingo hosted by CC Glitzer, karaoke on Tuesday and Baila Thursdays, with a dance instructor giving lessons on different styles – from salsa to bachata.

The weekends are more about nightlife, such as Saturday’s After Dark party. While not held every Sunday, a brunch with live entertainment is also in the mix.

Kill Your Idol

An intimate space with big energy, Kill Your Idol in South Beach on historic Espanola Way has cultivated quite the following over the years. With no cover and cheap drinks, it’s easy to see why this queer-friendly dive bar has done so.

Featuring all genres of live music, from local indie rock acts to touring punk bands and eclectic DJs, this bar turns up the nightlife heat.

On Thursdays, the dragtastic Dasha Sweetwaters takes over with Colossal Karaoke, working the mic as bar patrons tap into their inner pop diva.

Club Boi Parties

For the best urban and Caribbean beats, Club Boi’s monthly parties are where to head.

Held the last Saturday of every month, as well as on special holiday weekends, the parties take place at Club Boi’s permanent location in North Miami, along with other pop-up venues in South Florida.

From hip-hop and reggae to soca and dancehall, the DJs play all the mixes that keep the dance floor packed well into the wee hours of the morning.

LPN!

When closing time arrives on a Saturday night at one of Miami’s LGBTQ bars and nightclubs, the energy is sure to continue over at LPN!’s high-octane, gay after-hours party.

Held at El Palenque Nightclub in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, the party gets started at 5:30 a.m. Always make sure to have a pair of sunglasses handy when the fiesta ends.

Supernatural Haus

The creatives behind Supernatural Haus in Miami’s Upper East Side embrace the intersection of art, fashion and music in LGBTQ nightlife.

Billed as a “Private Club + Creative Space,” there’s a free community membership option (other membership policies and event charges apply) for access to the highly curated dance parties that take place here throughout the month.

Yes Ma’am Tuesdays at Blackbird Ordinary

As the name implies, Yes Ma’am Tuesdays at Blackbird Ordinary in Miami’s Brickell area is all about the ladies. With complimentary drinks for ladies until 1:00 a.m., it’s quite a way to celebrate.

While Yes Ma’am Tuesdays are not exclusively for lesbians and queer women, this weekly party draws a diverse, mixed crowd, and many ladies from the LGBTQ community attend.
