Queer Innovation
- June 06, 2025
In Greater Miami & Miami Beach, four innovators are reshaping the future of fashion. Each brings a unique perspective, shaped by the destination’s colorful landscapes, rich heritage and ever-evolving artistic scene. Miami’s rhythm – its music, architecture and street style – offers endless inspiration, fueling designs that blend tradition with bold experimentation.
These designers aren’t just dressing; they’re telling stories, building community and challenging conventions. As they draw from Miami’s spirit, they transform fashion into something deeply personal and refreshingly new. George Coronado explores how, in Miami, these queer innovators have found not only a home but a muse – one that drives them to rethink what fashion means and who it’s for.

René Rodriguez: Movement, Music and Metallic Flair
For choreographer and dancer René Rodriguez, fashion is rhythm made visible. Inspired by the energy of Miami’s streets – from Wynwood’s murals to Little Havana’s vintage charm – his style channels movement, color and cultural pride. Metallic accents often reflect the pulse of his performances, adding shimmer to each step. Whether directing dancers or DJing, René’s look is heritage in motion – bold, dynamic and radiant.

Fay Albernas: Bold Style, Bright Voice
For Fay Albernas – best known as TV & events host and personality FayWhat!?! – fashion is a celebration of identity and advocacy. Rooted in Miami’s vibrancy, her style radiates confidence and color – echoing the warmth of her Colombian-American heritage. On screen or center stage, Fay embraces bold silhouettes and statement pieces that match her fearless energy. Her fashion speaks loudly, just like her voice for representation and change.

Jonathan Stanton: Global Looks, Miami Roots
For model and actor Jonathan Stanton, fashion is where heritage meets high style. A Korean-Italian-American with a striking presence, he moves seamlessly between international runways and iconic Miami events. His look blends tailored elegance with bold confidence. For Jonathan, fashion is a passport to expression, identity and storytelling.

Chris Urquiaga: Harmony and Style
Singer and performer Chris Urquiaga’s vibrant fashion expression is deeply inspired by Miami’s dynamic harmony and colorful culture. Its blend of Latin flair, beachside glam and urban edge perfectly complements his Peruvian-Brazilian-American roots. Miami’s lively streets and nightlife fuel his style – effortlessly mixing elegance with tropical vibrancy, reflecting his passion for music, travel and unforgettable performances on and off the stage.
