A premiere city for the arts in general, Miami hosts a dynamic performing arts and dance scene. Let’s take a closer look at some of the local dance companies.

Miami City Ballet

Performing since 1985, the Miami City Ballet has developed a repertoire of nearly 100 ballets, including classical, modern, neo-classical and contemporary works. Consisting of more than 50 established professional dancers, the company has toured to about 100 cities in the United States as well as internationally. The Miami City Ballet School is the company’s official pre-professional training academy and serves nearly 900 students annually. The school is located at the Ophelia & Juan Js. Roca Center on Miami Beach and the company performances usually take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown.

Momentum Dance Company

Founded in 1982 by Delma Iles, the Momentum Dance Company hosts the annual Miami Dance Festival as well as educational programs for children and adults. Additionally, the company performs at community events and festivals. The company focuses mostly on modern dance, but also includes dance films, master classes, workshops, artist talks and performances in traditional.

IFÉ-ILÉ Afro-Cuban Dance and Music

IFÉ-ILÉ is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and cultivating Afro-Cuban culture, dance and folklore. The company has been helping develop a cross-cultural understanding and education through dance, music performances, lectures and their festival for more than a decade. The IFÉ-ILÉ Afro-Cuban Dance and Music Festival is held yearly in the late summer at the Little Haiti Cultural Arts Center.

Ballet Flamenco La Rosa

Specializing in professional flamenco performances, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa offers a unique opportunity to experience multiple dance forms. In addition to its concert season, the company offers classes in salsa, belly dance, jazz, bachata, tango, African dance and more.

Dance NOW!

Miami Co-founded by Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salternini, Dance NOW! Miami is a company offering contemporary dance performances and educational opportunities through the local dance in public school program and performances at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida Under the artistic direction of Vladimir Issaev, the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida performs a variety of classical ballets. The company performs at a variety of locations, including The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and the Julius Littman North Miami Beach Performing Arts Theatre.

New World Symphony of the Arts Repertory Dance Ensemble

Students of the New World School of the Arts perform as the NWSA Repertory Dance Ensemble in various programs throughout the year. With recognized choreography by world-renowned artists, the NWSA college and high school dancers promise a captivating evening of sound and movement.

Tigertail Productions

For 35 years, Tigertail Productions has hosted high-quality international dance companies, as well as other performing arts specialists, in Miami. Their regular season runs from October through April and the company has commissioned more than 500 artists in the performing and visual arts.
