Best Vegan and Vegetarian Food in Miami
- November 24, 2023
With its connection to local farms and artisan producers, as well as culinary influences that span the globe, it’s no surprise that Greater Miami & Miami Beach is a mecca for vegan and vegetarian foodies. Plant-focused restaurants here run the gamut from raw fare to Indian restaurants to comfort food that’ll win over even the staunchest veggie skeptics. Here are our favorite vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the destination.
Vegan Cuban Cuisine
No list of vegan restaurants in Miami would be complete without a vegan Cuban restaurant. Situated in an unassuming Kendall strip mall, Vegan Cuban Cuisine has received national acclaim for its vegan versions of meat-intensive Cuban favorites – the iconic Cuban sandwich, croquetas (chickpea and organic soy-based ham), papa rellena (stuffed and deep-fried potato), and guava and vegan cream cheeze pastelitos. Wash the delicious dishes down with an iced café con “leche” (oat milk). All-day breakfast items include Cuban toast with plant-based butter and juntos y revueltos with JUST Egg (eggs made from plants).
The Cocinita Miami
Come hungry to this delightful vegan Mexican food spot in Brickell. Casual and convenient (it even delivers within a 20-mile radius), The Cocinita Miami offers tasty vegan burritos and tacos as well as burgers, falafel and South American favorites like arepas and empanadas. A rotating list of specials keeps things interesting. For the kiddos, the Good Meal serves up a vegan cheeseburger with a side of fresh fruit in a cute yellow box that might look a little familiar. Be sure to follow the restaurant on Instagram, where you’ll often see happy hour two-for-one deals on burritos and burgers and other specials.
MyRoots Juice Bar & Kitchen
With breakfast, lunch and dinner options ranging from fresh and raw to rich and decadent, MyRoots Juice Bar & Kitchen is much more than a juice bar. Its Kendall and Coral Gables locations serve an extensive menu of healthy items, such as avocado and cashew cream toast, acai bowls, spinach empanadas and arepas with a healthy twist. Served all day, the MyRoots Vegan Breakfast is vegan comfort food at its finest: tofu-based revoltillo with tomato and chives with an arepa, plantains, sliced avocado and kale salad on the side. From curried chickpeas to fresh zoodles (zucchini noodles), there is a seemingly endless list of healthy bowls, too.

Love Life Cafe
Just a few blocks from the colorful walls of Wynwood, Love Life Cafe offers creative, 100% plant-based signature dishes, such as sushi pizza, a legendary veggie burger featuring a superfood patty, bright green arepas and all-day breakfast items made with JUST Egg. The dessert menu includes vegan guava cheesecake and tiramisu.

Miami Restaurants with Vegetarian and Vegan Choices
Pura Vida Miami
While it includes non-plant-based items on the menu, this stylish-but-casual local chain offers plenty of healthy vegetarian and vegan options all day long. With nearly 20 locations throughout South Florida (including in Brickell, Doral, Miami Beach, the Miami Design District and Coral Gables), Pura Vida Miami is the perfect spot to grab an avocado toast and a smoothie for breakfast, a vegan baked item or an oat mylk latte. Lunch and dinner offerings include healthy bowls and plates, sandwiches, wraps, salads and empanadas. First-timers must try the crispy and savory veggie bites.
Awash Ethiopian Restaurant
Vegans and vegetarians have plenty of choices when they opt for the cuisine of Ethiopia, as you’ll find in the palate-pleasing veggie options on the menu at Awash Ethiopian Restaurant. Though the exterior is a storefront in a Miami Gardens strip mall, the interior is inspired by an Ethiopian country home. Flavorful dishes, such as tikel gomen (cabbage and tender carrots spiced with ginger, garlic and onion) and misir wot (red lentils with red pepper sauce), are served with traditional injera, a tangy, spongy flatbread that’s used in lieu of a spoon or fork – though they’ll bring you silverware if you ask. The bar serves Ethiopian beer and wine, and there’s a traditional coffee ceremony on weekends.
The Last Carrot
About as old school as it gets, The Last Carrot has been doing its thing in Coconut Grove since the 1970s. Though omnivorous, the menu features vegetarian and vegan dishes and handhelds, including a baked tofu sandwich, a veggie burger and a unique creation: a mixed veggie and peanut butter sandwich. You’ll also find juice bar mainstays, such as wheatgrass shots and smoothies.
Naomi’s Garden
Vegan Haitian food can be hard to find, but this beloved mainstay in Little Haiti serves it with gusto thanks to the Haitian American cooks who lovingly prepare it. Though its menu has meat, Naomi’s Garden has extensive vegan options. Sink your teeth into tofu stroganoff, feel the heat of the curry jackfruit or savor the spinach stew in this delightful garden setting. Wash it all down with a soursop or passionfruit juice.
Rishtedar
With flavors as colorful and complex as the murals that adorn nearby Wynwood Walls, new-and-buzzy Rishtedar has a menu inspired by the coastal cuisine of India with touches of Portuguese, English and Persian. Though meat is also served, there is a sizable vegetarian menu, with vegan options including achari bengan (eggplant cooked in an aphrodisiac sauce) and bhindi masala (crispy okra cooked with onions and spices). You won’t be able to resist the samosas, a signature appetizer of pillowy pastry stuffed with spice-infused potatoes. Some dishes feature dairy, so confirm a dish’s vegan status with your server before ordering. The drink list features wine-based, India-inspired cocktails, such as the Huerto Hindu (white rum, cucumber, mint, lime and turmeric) and the Masala Summer (pisco, cucumber, cilantro, lime and a touch of chili).
