Join Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center and the Miami Book Fair as they present An Homage to Dulce María Loynaz, a new production honoring the famed Cuban poet, featuring the music of Cuban composers, Ernesto Lecuona and José White Lafitte. Performed entirely in Spanish, the tribute pair's Loynaz's poetry, performed as spoken word, with the music of Lecuona and White Lafitte. Musical works included in the program are Lecuona’s Dame tus rosas (Give Me Your Roses) and White Lafitte’s La Bella Cubana (The Beautiful Cuban Woman), to name a few.
The performance features Viviam Maria López as narrator, with actress Grettel Trujillo performing the poetry reading. Musical accompaniment is directed by Greisel Dominguez joined by pianist Evita Garrucho. The Voices of Miami Choir will deliver a mesmerizing vocal performance, with soprano Laura de Mare and tenor Carlos Silva taking center stage.
Considered to be a seminal figure in Cuban literature, Loynaz was the recipient of more than 15 literary awards, including the 1992 Miguel de Cervantes Prize. The Prize is bestowed annually to honor the lifetime achievement of an outstanding writer of the Spanish language and is considered the most prestigious prize one can receive for Spanish literature.
