Experience the groundbreaking musical Cabaret, presented by the Arsht Center and Zoetic Stage as part of the Theater Up Close series' 2023-24 season. Slated to run on select dates from March 14 through April 7, this production features a book by Joe Masteroff, based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander.
Set against the backdrop of late 1920s Berlin, Cabaret unfolds with a charismatic master of ceremonies promising an escape from troubles at the Cabaret. Through the emcee's provocative songs as biting social commentary, the musical delves into the lives of Berlin's inhabitants and expatriates amidst the rise of the Third Reich. Cliff, an American writer, is enchanted by English singer Sally Bowles, while Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, finds herself drawn to the gentle Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit seller. Memorable musical numbers include "Willkommen," "Cabaret," "Don't Tell Mama," and "Two Ladies."
