Join conservator Rosa Lowinger at The Wolfsonian on Saturday, January 13 for an engaging talk on the topic of preserving modern tropical buildings in Miami and Havana, as discussed in her recently released memoir, Dwell Time. From mosaics and murals to decorative cast stone, terracotta, and ironwork, Lowinger will illustrate how restoring key elements of 20th-century tropical architecture serves as a powerful metaphor for personal healing after experiencing loss, especially the loss of one's home. Find out about local conservation endeavors led by Lowinger, including notable projects such as the Wolfsonian facade, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens and Miami Marine Stadium. These projects will serve as a launching point for a thought-provoking conversation about the journey of immigrants finding comfort in new places and homes. Stick around after the talk for a book signing session with the author at The Wolfsonian Design Store.
This event is organized in collaboration with the Miami Design Preservation League, as part of Art Deco Weekend.
