Free Second Saturdays: Gary Simmons' Erasure Drawings
This event has passed.
Experience a family-friendly day filled with art and creativity at PAMM's Free Second Saturdays on Saturday, February 10. Participate in an engaging art session where you'll create chalk and pastel designs inspired by the erasure drawings featured in the exhibit, Gary Simmons: Public Enemy.
In the early 1990s, Simmons embarked on a series of artworks using chalk on chalkboards, a technique that would soon become one of his distinctive styles, known as erasure drawings. His process involves first drafting a picture with chalk, then smudging and smearing them by hand, giving them a ghostly quality, as if partially erased. During the art session, you'll explore the theme of "erasure" by actively drawing symbols and ideas that evoke strong emotions. Afterwards, you'll experiment with different tools to reflect on the difficulty of erasing these powerful concepts and feelings.
